My 'sister' Tyre-lady has arrived home after a 2,500 mile cycle to highlght LOW CARBON TRAVEL. As the sustainability ambassador for the Geneva marathon she left England in early April to cycle there via a run in Trieste, Italy. I joined her in Geneva to help collect a thousand Climate Change Messages which we spoke out from the United Nations European headquarters. These were mainly from runners making a commitment towards low carbon and zero waste lifestyles. She 'gobsmacked' them by running the marathon pulling a tyre to endorse that we can indeed all put in effort to help our Earth.

Afterwards I cycled with her for three long days of the journey home over the Jura mountains from Switzerland into France. As we climbed our constant companions were icy gale-force winds, somehow forcing us to trust that we would be able to find places in the forests to wild camp. We were also joined by the chameleon that sits on Tyre-lady's shoulder signifying change, and my penguin friends Think Peace and Speak Peace who had decided it was time to take up biking.

I can't pretend that it wasn't tough. But there was great joy in supporting a friend who was listening to her own high ideals and taking action. She herself was undertaking the whole journey with ZERO WASTE. This takes some doing. For example we were living mostly on bread and cheese - food which could be purchased without packaging. She calls upon us all to take responsibility for our own waste.
